Academics Grades 5-6

Elementary G. 5 – 6 & Middle G. 1 – 3 Curriculum

Classes are divided equally between studying original texts (recommended by American teachers) and non-fiction passages with critical essay writing and debate (English classes), and Korean-style grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension to prepare for middle school exams.

1. Novel & Discussion (English Class)

Advanced reading classes for upper elementary and middle school students, emphasizing literary discussion and critical thinking, and enhancing creative writing skills. It also provides opportunities to grow as global citizens by learning about diverse cultures and background knowledge.

2. Nonfiction Reading & Essay Writing (English Class)

Students read nonfiction texts on various subjects (sociology, nutritional science, social psychology, technology, physiology) and write 5-paragraph essays. This helps them handle advanced vocabulary and complex grammatical structures, training in academic debate and writing.

3. TOEFL Reading (English Class)

Students practice reading TOEFL passages (exposition, argumentation, historical narrative) and learn essential vocabulary while improving problem-solving skills through various types of questions (reference, factual information, inference, rhetorical purpose).

4. Middle/High School Vocabulary (Korean Class)

Systematic vocabulary study based on etymology, synonyms and antonyms, derivatives, and multiple meanings, from middle school to college entrance exam level. Thorough learning management includes daily quizzes and retests.

5. Middle/High School Grammar (Korean Class)

Learning the structure of complex sentences and advanced rules for accurate reading and writing, with continuous practice on past exam questions to prepare for school exams.

6. Reading Comprehension (Korean Class)

Learning to identify the main theme, understand text structure, and solve related questions. This strengthens the foundation for college entrance exam reading comprehension through intensive practice.
